DISCONTENT AT THE EASYJET PILOTS

Each year, the low cost carrier EasyJet transports more than 78 million passengers . But many flights are delayed or canceled at the last minute in summer

In July , we count no less 541 canceled flights , compared to 350 the previous year at the same time.

In an open letter to vitriol addressed to the company's founder and main shareholder, Stelios Haji-Ioannou , the SNPL, the main French pilot union, denounces a strategy where "the employee is reduced to an adjustment variable, a cost, and the passenger at a profit.

For the union the British company would program more flights than it can achieve by imposing "unrealistic" flight plans on pilots.

The safety of the flights would suffer the direction not hesitating to put pressure on the teams. The company would try to intimidate pilots who refuse to use their discretion . The latter allows the pilot to exceed two hours of the legal flight time. But it is a " prerogative, which is intended to be used only in exceptional circumstances or unforeseen circumstances, and if the crew is physically and mentally capable of doing so".

"Some drivers have been pressured because they refused to exercise their discretion, " said unionist Nicolas Frick . They have been threatened with disciplinary action while it is a measure that must remain exceptional. "

In addition , customer service is lacking.

"It is the customer who unfortunately falls victim to this infernal spiral with cancellations of daily flights, agents who do not know what to answer or even find a hotel room , " wrote the SNPL.

The SNPL wishes to participate in the development of rotation programs.

The British company EasyJet says it is "surprised" by these accusations and ensures to make "no compromise on the security".

The cancellation of flights would be due to "airspace congestion, harsh weather and air traffic control restrictions," according to a spokesman for the company.
